Lagos Pastor Sentenced to 25 Years for Repeated Sexual Abuse of 14-Year-Old Daughter

A Lagos-based pastor, Ndukwe Ogbu, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Ikeja Special Offences Court for sexually abusing his biological daughter over multiple occasions.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe delivered the verdict after finding Ogbu guilty on three counts defilement, sexual assault, and sexual penetration following compelling evidence presented by the prosecution, including testimonies from the survivor, a medical expert, and a social worker.

The court noted that the 45-year-old showed no remorse throughout the trial. His plea for leniency was dismissed, with the judge stating that justice must be served.

The survivor, now older, testified that the abuse began when she was just 14 years old, and that Ogbu had warned her to remain silent. The case came to light after she confided in a schoolteacher.

The court ordered that the sentences three years on one count and 25 years each on the remaining two run concurrently, beginning from December 2019, when Ogbu was first remanded.

The Lagos State Government prosecuted the case, which began in February 2021 and concluded with this landmark conviction.
