Lagos Set for Intermittent Power Outages from July 28 to August 21 Due to TCN Maintenance
Lagos residents will face intermittent electricity blackouts from July 28 to August 21, 2025 due to scheduled maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV power line.
The maintenance work approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the National Independent System Operator (NISO) involves the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fiber cable to upgrade this critical transmission line.
Electricity supply interruptions will occur daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. across affected areas as power flow is temporarily reduced for the maintenance to be safely carried out.
Although power will be restored through the line after each day’s work and other circuits will remain active to ensure some level of stable supply, Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Companies (EKEDC) have warned customers to expect intermittent power supply and load shedding during this period.
The Omotosho–Ikeja West power line is a vital link delivering bulk electricity from the Omotosho Power Station in Ondo State to Ikeja West a major transmission hub serving parts of Lagos State.
Residents and businesses in the affected zones which include several parts of Lagos under Ikeja Electric’s and EKEDC’s networks, are advised to plan accordingly to manage the impact of these daily outages on their activities.
The TCN has expressed regret for the inconvenience and emphasized that the upgrade is necessary to improve the long-term reliability, efficiency and safety of Nigeria’s power grid infrastructure. Customers are urged to exercise patience and cooperation throughout the 25-day maintenance exercise.
This scheduled maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to enhance power transmission and ensure better service delivery to Lagos and surrounding areas in the future
