Lagos State Government Endorses Inaugural GITEX Nigeria Technology Exposition to Boost Digital Economy

The Lagos State government has officially endorsed the inaugural GITEX Nigeria technology exposition affirming its full support for the event set to take place from September 1-4, 2025 in both Lagos and Abuja.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu pledged strong backing from the Lagos State Government to ensure the successful hosting and impactful outcome of the expo which aims to showcase Nigeria’s thriving technology and innovation ecosystem on a global platform.

Speaking about the endorsement, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed enthusiasm for GITEX Nigeria as a transformative event expected to boost the Nigerian digital economy, attract international investors and accelerate startup growth and entrepreneurship within Lagos and beyond.

The governor highlighted the state’s commitment to leveraging technology as a key driver of sustainable development through initiatives like the “Art of Technology (AOT)” program now in its fifth year which has discovered and nurtured numerous young tech entrepreneurs.

The endorsement follows collaborative efforts between the Lagos State government and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) which signed a Memorandum of Understanding with KAOUN International the global organizers of GITEX to bring the largest tech fair brand to Nigeria for the first time.

The event aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aiming to reform the economy through digital innovation, industrialization, and economic diversification.

GITEX Nigeria is anticipated to attract over 1,000 startups, innovators and global investors spotlighting Abuja as a hub for digital policy and artificial intelligence discussions while Lagos will focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and deal-making.

The event signifies Nigeria’s emergence as a significant player in Africa’s digital ecosystem and a gateway for African technology on the world stage.

Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat reiterated Lagos State’s readiness to host the event, emphasizing the growing tech talent and innovation culture in the state and the broader Nigerian tech landscape. The exposition is expected to create new business opportunities, foster partnerships and catalyze growth in Nigeria’s digital economy.

This endorsement and active collaboration fall within ongoing government efforts to build a technology-driven economy and make Lagos a leading tech hub in Africa.
