Late Herbert Wigwe’s father denies dispute with grandchildren over inheritance
Engineer Shyngle Wigwe, father of the late Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe, has denied claims that he is contesting his son’s inheritance with his grandchildren.
Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and their eldest son tragically died in a helicopter crash in the United States in February 2024. Since then, rumors circulated online suggesting a family feud over the late banker’s estate.
In a recent interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the 90-year-old patriarch described these claims as false.
He emphasized that at his age, he has no interest in Herbert’s wealth and that his priority is family unity and preserving his son’s legacy.
“How can I want to claim Herbert’s properties? Who is the best person to defend Herbert’s properties? The father or a friend?
The Father at 90 years? My grandchildren are there! Haba! I beg your pardon! How many more days have I got to live? So what will I do with Herbert’s properties?” he stated.
Shyngle Wigwe clarified that his only concern is maintaining peace within the family and honouring Herbert’s legacy, dismissing the rumors of a legal or emotional battle over the inheritance.
