The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Victor Oko-Jumbo, has recently evaluated and approved a total of eight nominees for key positions within the Rivers State Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP.
This decision comes after Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s request for the House to scrutinize and endorse the nominees, following their presentation by factional Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo during a session last Friday.
Among the confirmed nominees are Barrister Lawrence Oko-Jaja as Chairman, along with Dr. Ernest Ibekwe Ekwe, Dr. Mina Ogbanga, Engr. Iseleye Amacree, Engr. Adokiye Oyagiri, Engr. Gift Alex-Hart, Mrs. Grace Oraronu, and Barrister Selinah Amonieah.
Governor Fubara’s correspondence to the House requested the screening and confirmation of these individuals in accordance with the State’s Public Procurement Law. The Governor expressed his satisfaction in recommending these nominees for consideration by the State House of Assembly.
During the confirmation process, Speaker Oko-Jumbo highlighted the nominees’ diverse backgrounds and extensive expertise, foreseeing their valuable contributions towards enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the State’s procurement bureau.
The nominees received confirmation through a unanimous voice vote, with an appeal from Oko-Jumbo for them to uphold values of integrity, accountability, and transparency in alignment with governmental standards.
Subsequent to the confirmation, Speaker Oko-Jumbo instructed the Clerk, Dr. G. M. Gillis-West, to communicate the House’s resolution to Governor Fubara for the potential swearing-in of the confirmed members to the Board of the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement.
The House then adjourned its session, scheduling the next sitting for Wednesday, September 4, 2024, marking a significant step forward in the State’s governance and procurement processes.
