Lawyer Slams Viral Naval Officer Who Confronted Wike: “He’s Not a Hero”
A Nigerian legal practitioner has weighed in on the viral confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Lieutenant Yarima, the naval officer involved in the incident.
In a Facebook post, lawyer First Baba Isa criticized both the minister and the officer, expressing disappointment over how the situation unfolded.
Isa argued that Lieutenant Yarima is not a hero, pointing out that naval officers do not earn hero status simply by guarding luxury properties of former bosses.
The lawyer condemned Wike for publicly confronting the officer, describing the minister’s approach as beneath the dignity of his office.
“Wike could have resolved the issue with a call to his superiors instead of creating a public scene. It is infra dig the high office he occupies,” Isa wrote.
He also highlighted the legal context of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), noting that while the minister wields significant powers over FCT land, his brazen exercise of authority in this situation was concerning.
The lawyer emphasized that officers following orders should not be subjected to public humiliation, urging respect for the chain of command and institutional protocols.
