Layi Wasabi’s unwavering determination to pursue a career in comedy.
Isaac Olayiwola, commonly referred to as Layi, discussed the source of inspiration for his alternative persona, which is a lawyer character called The Law.
Layi emphasized that from a young age, he had a strong inclination towards pursuing a career in comedy. In his words, “I always knew that I wanted to do comedy, from school I had always been the class clown so I knew that this is what I’d do at the end of the day. When I told my class teacher that I wanted to be a comedian, she said ‘What is funny?”Layi is a fully qualified legal practitioner by profession, which, intriguingly enough, serves as a significant wellspring of inspiration for his content. Layi highlighted that he skillfully incorporates elements of his own persona into his alter ego and other characters featured in his comedic skits.
He said, “I think I started to do that lawyer character more because the persona is not just scripting, I’ve now become that guy lowkey.”
The performer also highlighted that he breathes life into his characters by adding elements of the individuals he encountered and overheard during his upbringing in Osun state.Delving deeper into his story, he reminisced about his mother’s response upon revealing his aspirations to become a comedian at the tender age of nine.
According to his amusing recollection, his mother had a predictable reaction to his declaration, vehemently opposing his chosen career path.
