Lekki Duplex Used for Drug Trafficking Forfeited to Federal Government

Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court, Lagos, has ordered the final forfeiture of a four-bedroom duplex in Lekki Phase 1 to the Federal Government, after it was found to have been used for illegal drug activities.

The property, located at Block 11, House 2, Mobolaji Johnson Estate, was linked to a suspected drug baron currently residing in Canada. According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the house served as a hub for trafficking Canadian Loud a high-grade cannabis strain into Nigeria.

NDLEA counsel, Buhari Abdulahi, told the court that an interim forfeiture order had been granted in March 2024, with public notices in the Daily Sun and Vanguard, yet no one came forward to claim the property.

“The property was the operational base for Adebanjo’s illicit drug activities,” Abdulahi said. “He purchased the house to coordinate storage, distribution, and sale of smuggled drugs.”

Investigations revealed that the syndicate used the Lekki duplex as a warehouse and coordination centre, and a raid on February 5, 2023, recovered 1.088kg of Canadian Loud and led to the arrest of five suspects. Four of them have been convicted, while one remains on trial.

Justice Owoeye ruled that the property and all items inside be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government, describing them as “instruments used in committing drug offences.”
