Liverpool Clinch £79M Deal for Hugo Ekitike After Beating Newcastle to Star Striker

After intense negotiations, the Premier League champions agreed to an initial fee of £69 million ($93m), with a further £10 million in performance-based add-ons, according to The Athletic. Frankfurt had originally demanded closer to £82 million.

Ekitike, 23, is set to sign a six-year contract and will undergo a medical before joining Arne Slot’s squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.

The explosive forward enjoyed a phenomenal 2024–25 season, scoring 22 goals and racking up 12 assists. His stellar performances made him one of Europe’s hottest properties, with Newcastle also expressing interest earlier in the window.

Liverpool turned to Ekitike after missing out on Alexander Isak, who is now in advanced talks with Saudi giants Al-Hilal.

Ekitike becomes the latest star name to join the Reds this summer, following high-profile arrivals like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez signaling a bold new era under Arne Slot.
