LP Group Demands INEC and Judiciary to Follow Electoral Act Guidelines.

The Catalyst Committee, a key group within the Labour Party (LP), has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Judiciary to uphold the rule of law and the Electoral Act 2022, as amended, in dealing with the party’s candidacy.

In a statement issued by its Coordinator, Dr. Abel Oarhe, the committee highlighted the importance of resisting political pressure and ensuring adherence to electoral laws.

Dr. Oarhe expressed concerns about potential interference by influential individuals (“money bags”) aiming to manipulate the electoral process.

The committee cautioned that any deviation from established norms by INEC could lead to unrest in the country’s political landscape.

The Committee’s concerns were raised following a legal challenge where Imasuangbon contested Akpata’s candidacy within the LP.

This legal dispute prompted Imasuangbon to approach the Federal High Court in both Abuja and Benin City for a legal interpretation concerning Akpata’s eligibility as the party’s candidate.
