Man Accidentally Cooks Ogbono Noodles, Bribes Daughter to Stay Quiet
A Nigerian father has sparked widespread laughter online after accidentally using blended ogbono (wild mango seeds) instead of crayfish while trying to cook noodles for his kids.
Sharing the hilarious mix-up on X (formerly Twitter), the man said he had decided to surprise his children with a homemade meal while his wife was out, only for things to take an unexpected turn.
According to him, he “went all in” with spices and ingredients, adding what he thought was crayfish to the noodles — until the texture began to look suspiciously sticky. To his shock, he discovered he had used ogbono, a popular soup thickener, instead.
He wrote:
“Wifey stepped out, so I decided to play ‘Super Dad’ and make noodles for the kids. I went all in — seasoning, spices, and what I thought was blended crayfish. Halfway through, the noodles started looking different. Turns out, I had added blended ogbono instead of crayfish! 😭😂 Had to bribe my daughter not to tell her mummy. Please don’t judge me and don’t ask if we ate it.”
The tweet quickly went viral, drawing a flood of humorous reactions from Nigerians who could relate to kitchen mix-ups.
One user commented, “Lol, it has happened to me too. I was frying egg and added crayfish by mistake. I still ate it sha.” Another wrote, “Bro made noodles wey dey draw! That’s innovation right there.”
Others jokingly called it a “new Nigerian recipe,” with one commenter writing, “Omo, na ogbono noodles be this — Michelin-star meal!”
The lighthearted story has since become one of the day’s funniest social media moments, proving that even kitchen disasters can make for great comedy.
