Man Once Celebrated in KWAM 1’s Songs Shares His Painful Journey from Wealth to Poverty

A man who identified himself as Saliu Maja, once a well-known car dealer and famously referenced in the songs of Fuji legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1), has shared his heartbreaking story of how he lost everything.

In a deeply emotional video interview posted by content creator Charismatic Oba, Saliu narrated how he went from enjoying wealth and admiration to struggling for daily survival. He revealed that despite advice from his late father to invest in real estate, he failed to prepare for the future.

His fortunes turned after a trip to Canada in 1996 with a friend involved in illicit dealings, which led to their deportation. Since then, life has been a daily struggle. Now a father of four, Saliu hawks bottled drinks on the streets, making just about ₦5,000 daily and squatting without a home of his own.

He also spoke about an attempt to reconnect with KWAM 1 at the musician’s 40th birthday, hoping to revive their past connection—but the effort was unsuccessful.

Appealing to kind-hearted Nigerians, Saliu said he wishes to return to his former business automobile parts trading and rebuild his life.

Charismatic Oba, who shared the interview, wrote:

“This thing called life is often filled with mysteries… Some people fought hard but still ended up in places they never wanted. It’s a sad world.”
