Manny Machado Reaches 2,000 Career Hits in Milestone Game for San Diego Padres
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado achieved a major career milestone on Monday night, recording his 2,000th Major League hit during a home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The historic moment came in the fourth inning at Petco Park, where Machado singled off Arizona starter Zac Gallen. The crowd erupted in a standing ovation as the veteran slugger joined one of baseball’s most exclusive clubs.
Milestone Hit Machado’s 2,000th hit was a sharply hit single that deflected off the glove of Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and landed in left field. Earlier in the game, Machado had already singled for his 1,999th career hit.
Additional Feat He capped his night with a solo home run in the eighth inning, marking the 357th homer of his career.
