May Edochie Slams Ex-Lawyer With ₦1 Billion Claim Over Defamation and Breach of Trust

May Edochie, estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has demanded ₦1 billion in damages from her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, accusing him of defamation, cyberbullying, and betraying client trust.

In a cease-and-desist letter issued by her legal team, Graylaw Partners, May alleged that Ugwuonye has repeatedly shared false and damaging claims about her on social media. She described his actions as malicious, threatening, and a deliberate attempt to destroy her reputation.

According to the letter, the former lawyer not only circulated defamatory statements but also allegedly created online platforms, including WhatsApp groups, aimed at tarnishing her image. May further claimed he unlawfully disclosed her private information in exchange for money, despite lacking the legal standing to act as her attorney.

“By fraudulently holding yourself out as a legal practitioner, you deceived our client, exploited her trust, and have continued to profit from defamatory publications,” the letter stated.

She added that his conduct has encouraged third parties to amplify the false narratives, worsening the damage to her image.

Her demands include the removal of all defamatory content, a public retraction and apology across his platforms, and the payment of ₦1 billion in compensation.
