Meet ValueJet Pilot Involved in Controversy with Fuji Legend K1 De Ultimate at Abuja Airport

A photo of Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, the ValueJet pilot involved in a dramatic incident with Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, at Abuja Airport has recently surfaced online, igniting widespread reactions across social media platforms.

The incident unfolded when K1 De Ultimate was reportedly denied boarding on ValueJet Flight VK 201 to Lagos for allegedly carrying alcohol in a thermoflask, a prohibited item under airline regulations.

According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the singer was cautioned to comply with the airline’s policy but allegedly refused, resulting in a confrontation where alcohol was spilled on a crew member.

A viral video captured the tense moment on the tarmac, showing K1 De Ultimate walking dangerously close to the aircraft as it prepared for takeoff, seemingly evading the moving plane.

Following the incident, Captain Ogoyi and her co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, were suspended pending investigation over alleged safety violations.

Known affectionately as “Rantilicious” among peers, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi is the daughter of former Osun Central Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale, who served in the National Assembly between 2003 and 2007. With over ten years of flying experience, she began her career at Arik Air before joining ValueJet.

Her promotion to full captain came in September 2021 at a ceremony attended by key industry figures, including the current Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Director General, Captain Chris Najomo.

Captain Ogoyi is married to Isaac Ogoyi Jr., a fellow pilot with experience at Arik Air, RwandAir, and presently Uganda Airlines.

The disclosure of Captain Ogoyi’s identity triggered diverse reactions online. Social commentator Isaac Fayose condemned the near-accident, stating, “If Wasiu had not quickly moved away, this could have been a tragedy. In a civilized country, such behavior would warrant arrest. This incident highlights serious issues in Nigeria’s safety culture.”

Other social media users offered humorous and supportive remarks, celebrating Captain Ogoyi’s decisive stance during the incident.
