Mercy Johnson’s Husband Criticized for Our Lady of Lourdes Girls Grammar School Project
Prince Odi Okojie, husband of Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson, has come under criticism following his renovation of the Our Lady of Lourdes Girls Grammar School in Uromi, Edo State.
The project, carried out through the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), reportedly includes major upgrades such as new laboratories, a fully equipped ICT center, inverters, solar installations, a borehole, and solar streetlights.
Okojie shared clips on Instagram showcasing his progress, including the construction of an Art Science Laboratory and the renovation of multiple classrooms.
Okojie explained that his inspiration for the project stems from his own childhood experiences and the school’s impact on shaping young girls’ lives.
Despite the positive intentions, the project has faced backlash from some Nigerians on social media. Critics argue that while the upgrades are welcome, there are concerns about incomplete work, lack of accessibility for children with disabilities, and the manner in which the project has been publicized.
While many acknowledged the effort and improvements, others insist that public figures must ensure transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in educational projects, especially when the welfare of students is involved.
The controversy highlights the delicate balance public figures must maintain between community development initiatives and public perception, especially when dealing with sensitive sectors like education.
