Military Rescues 12 Kidnap Victims from Boko Haram in Pre-Dawn Borno Operation

In a daring pre-dawn operation, troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully rescued 12 individuals, including seven women and five children, from Boko Haram captivity in the Mandara Mountains, Borno State.

The victims were abducted on November 14 along the Gwoza-Limankara road while traveling. The rescue mission, conducted under Operation DESERT SANITY IV and Diligent Search, was led by the 26 Task Force Brigade, with support from Hybrid Forces, Hunters, and local vigilantes. Heavy troop fire forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee.

Amid the chaos, the terrified victims scattered into surrounding bushes, exhausted and disoriented after days in captivity. By 8:45 a.m., all victims had been safely recovered.

A military spokesperson praised the troops for their bravery, speed, and professionalism, highlighting the vital role of security stakeholders and local informants whose intelligence made the rescue possible.

Those rescued included Fadi Musa, Jummai Manga, Hamsatu Musa, Jummai Ali, Inna Amadu, Falmata Musa, Hadiza Hamman, and five children.

The victims were evacuated to the brigade field ambulance for urgent medical attention to treat injuries, blisters, and effects of beatings, before being handed over to the Gwoza Local Government Area representatives for safe reunification with their families.

Security forces remain on high alert, actively pursuing ISWAP remnants across southern Borno to prevent further atrocities.

Authorities emphasised that continued vigilance and collaboration with local communities are crucial for dismantling insurgent networks.

The operation underscores the effectiveness of coordinated military action and local intelligence in protecting civilians and maintaining regional security.
