Minister Adelabu Promises Uninterrupted Power Supply Before 2031, Says Energy Is Backbone of Economic Growth

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured citizens that the country will enjoy stable and uninterrupted electricity supply before the end of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in 2031.

The minister made this declaration on Saturday, August 2, during the official commissioning of the Kwaru 1x15MVA 33/11kV Injection Substation located in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos State. The newly completed facility is part of ongoing nationwide efforts to strengthen power infrastructure and improve electricity distribution to homes and businesses.

Speaking at the event, Adelabu emphasized that the Tinubu-led government, under its Renewed Hope Agenda, is committed to transforming Nigeria’s energy sector as a foundation for sustainable development, economic growth, and job creation.

“The present administration in Nigeria, led by His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the Renewed Hope Agenda, recognizes that energy is not merely a commodity; it is the backbone of economic growth and job creation,” Adelabu said. “Nigerians can be assured of the President’s determination to ensure that citizens enjoy full and uninterrupted electricity supply before he leaves office.”

He noted that the substation project is one of many interventions being undertaken to reduce system overload, expand distribution capacity, and improve supply reliability in urban and semi-urban communities.

Adelabu further highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships between the federal government, state authorities, and private sector operators in achieving energy reform. He called on stakeholders in the power sector to align with the administration’s vision and prioritize long-term investments that will drive energy access for all Nigerians.

The Power Minister also pointed out that improved electricity access is a prerequisite for industrialization, digital innovation, youth empowerment, and the overall competitiveness of the Nigerian economy.

Residents of Ikotun-Egbe and surrounding communities are expected to benefit directly from the upgraded power infrastructure, which is designed to reduce blackouts and voltage fluctuations that have long plagued the area.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by top government officials, energy sector stakeholders, community leaders, and residents, many of whom expressed optimism that the new facility would mark a turning point in the area’s power supply situation.
