Minister Wike Denies Revoking PDP Land Title to Suppress Opposition, Cites Unpaid Ground Rent as Reason.

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has denied allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he revoked the party’s land title to suppress opposition.

Wike explained that the revocation was due to the PDP’s failure to pay the mandatory N7.6 million ground rent for over 10 years. According to Wike, the PDP’s claim that he targeted their secretariat is misleading, as the property was not registered in the party’s name but under a senator.

He emphasized that the land revocation was not peculiar to the PDP, as other institutions and individuals had also had their land titles revoked for non-payment of ground rent.

Wike stated that he had approved the revocation of 4,794 land titles on March 17, 2025, affecting various individuals, organizations, and government institutions. He advised the Body of Benchers to ensure they paid their ground rent to avoid revocation.
