“Modern Feminism Has Become Toxic and Two-Faced” – Jim Iyke Declares
Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has sparked controversy after criticizing what he describes as the modern-day distortion of feminism, claiming it has become “toxic, two-faced, and culturally imbalanced.”
Speaking during an interview with The EchoRoom, the 48-year-old actor expressed his concerns over the direction feminism has taken in recent years, accusing it of encouraging unhealthy competition between genders.
“I consider it a crime, a kind of assault,” he said. “It started as a movement to challenge patriarchy, but now it’s an extreme ideology that promotes gender imbalance.”
Jim Iyke alleged that modern feminism originated as a marketing strategy by a women’s magazine seeking to boost readership by encouraging female empowerment in opposition to traditional gender roles.
“It was a clever campaign to push sales. Their main readers were women, so they created an ideology that allowed women to challenge the status quo and it worked.”
He argued that the movement, over time, has been adopted as a lifestyle choice, leading to an increasing number of women rejecting men altogether and distorting the essence of equality.
“This whole idea of ‘we don’t need a man, anything a man can do we can do better’ was blown out of proportion. Now, it has become a cultural standard for some.”
The actor emphasized his belief in gender complementarity, noting that true balance can only be achieved when men and women embrace their distinct yet harmonious roles.
“The double standard is what makes me question the ideology. Men and women were designed for different roles that complement each other. That’s where real balance lies.”
Jim Iyke’s remarks have since triggered a wave of reactions online, with some supporting his stance while others accuse him of misunderstanding or misrepresenting feminism.
