Mother Accuses Police of Killing Son in Calabar After Attempt to Preach to Governor.

A heartbroken mother, Mrs. Victoria Mba, has alleged that police officers in Calabar killed her 22-year-old son, Moses Onyekachi Mba, after he tried to deliver a divine message to the Cross River State governor.

Mrs. Mba, a trader from Abia State, said the tragic incident occurred on August 1, 2025, when her son approached the State House with the intention of sharing what he believed was a vision from God. According to her, instead of listening, security operatives brutalized him and opened fire.

“He told me that God gave him a vision and directed him to deliver His word. But rather than hear him out, they treated him as a threat, beat him up, and shot him,” she recalled in tears.

The grieving mother said Moses was left bleeding on the ground for hours until Red Cross workers rushed him to the Navy Hospital. She further alleged that doctors requested over ₦400,000 for surgery, but despite several transfusions, he slipped into a coma and eventually died on August 9.

“Shockingly, the authorities were more focused on a cover-up than saving his life. Policemen were even stationed around him as though he was a criminal,” she lamented.

Mrs. Mba also rejected claims that her son was mentally unstable. “They said my son was mad. This is the same boy who wanted to study Business Administration. He never drank or smoked. All he wanted was to serve God,” she said.

According to her, the family faced threats and pressure from government officials when they refused to honour police invitations, which forced them to petition the AIG Zone 6. “They killed my son and never sympathized with me. Instead, they want to tag him insane and bury the truth. I just want justice and the right to bury my child in peace,” she cried.

She added that the police demanded an autopsy before burial, but weeks later, the investigation remains stalled.

“He was such a loving and peaceful boy, always ready to give without thinking of himself. Everyone in our compound feels his absence. Not one word of sympathy, nobody has called me,” Mrs. Mba said as she continued her call for justice.
