by Chiekezie Emmanuel Ezesinachi

The current Chief Justice of the Students Union Government of Enugu state university of science and Technology (Esut) disclosed his leadership odessey.

Speaking with the Chief Judge of Enugu state university of science and Technology His lordship Rt. Hon.Justice V.C Nnamaini, he stated that his leadership journey began in his first year,
“My Leadership Journey Started in my first year, where I was appointed the Class Director of Welfare for my class. This initial role was foundational; it taught me the importance of service-oriented leadership and the diligence required to ensure the well-being of my peers. It was here that I learned to build trust and work as a dedicated team player.

In my second year, my growing influence and commitment led to a period of significant Recognition and Growth. I was offered multiple high-level appointments like, The Senator Representing the Good People of Noca Hostel ESUT and others which after careful consideration, I chose to serve as the SUG Judiciary Clerk. This position was pivotal in developing my understanding of judicial processes, integrity, and accountability. At the same time, I was also appointed SA on Media and Publicity to the Law Faculty President. This role was instrumental in honing my communication, public relations, and event management skills, as I was responsible for covering major faculty events, including our annual dinner and awards night. This year taught me how to effectively balance multiple, high-stakes responsibilities” he said.

“My third year was a step-up in a different way. I successfully ran for and was elected SUG Financial Secretary. This leadership role challenged me to master financial accountability and strategic event planning. A highlight of my tenure was hosting a major online webinar that brought together esteemed individuals, including the Dean of Students Affairs and various professional and student leaders from across the state. This experience underscored my ability to lead large-scale projects and engage with key stakeholders.”

He further stated that in his fourth year, he continued to broaden his leadership impact to the general student body. “I was appointed as the Chairman of the Nigerian Young Professionals Forum, ESUT Chapter, which allowed me to focus on youth empowerment and community organization. I also served as Media Director for Sound Education Ambassadors Nigeria. My passion for justice, however, drove me to contest and win the position of Chief Judge of the Student Union. In this role, I am currently working to ensure fairness and uphold student rights. My current appointment as the Chief Registrar of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Judicial Council, Enugu State Chapter, further solidifies my commitment to this cause on a wider scale.

Beyond the titles, my journey is a testament to my deep passion for student leadership, justice, and community service. I believe that leadership is not merely about a position, but about the lasting impact we create through integrity, service, and a commitment to ensuring every voice is heard he emphasize.

He positioned that his leadership journey is filled with hurdles as nothing Good comes easily
“a big part of my journey was figuring out how to handle the challenges that came with it. Honestly, one of the most significant was simply managing my time and energy. Imagine being a law student with our faculty that is incredibly demanding, while also serving as a student leader and trying to still manage my business (my Demures Den VTU App and my graphics design brand). There were countless times when I had to make tough decisions, like choosing between attending a crucial lecture, Going for Our Union Meeting or handling an urgent business matter.
The way I tackled this was by becoming obsessed with my schedule. I got really good at prioritizing and being efficient, knowing that every hour counted. It taught me that effective leadership isn’t just about managing other people or projects; it’s about being able to manage yourself under immense pressure.

“Another big challenge especially was in my second year” he continued “ when I was faced with making a tough call about which leadership roles to commit to. I was offered a leadership role to be A Senator Representing the Good people of Noca Hostel, I was still appointed as the SUG Judiciary Clerk and As an SA on media and Publicity for our Faculty. It was a tempting mix, but I realized I couldn’t do all three well. I made a deliberate choice to step down from the Senate position to fully commit to the Judiciary arm and also on my media roles. That experience taught me a powerful lesson about focused commitment, that it’s far better to do a few things exceptionally well than to spread yourself too thin.

Finally, navigating the complex web of interest, the students, the university management, and even my own personal goal was a constant challenge. I often had to mediate and find common ground between opposing viewpoints. I overcame this by always staying true to my principles of integrity and fairness, which helped me build trust with everyone involved. these challenges weren’t just obstacles they were growth and opportunities which help me in building my self. They helped me develop resilience and strategic thinking, and they proved to me that I can perform at a high level, no matter how much pressure I encounter” he said.
