National Coalition Demands Justice for Benue Massacre Victims Calls Ammunition Recovery Inadequate

The National Coalition for Justice and Peace has called for a thorough investigation and accountability following recent mass killings in Benue State insisting that the police’s recovery of ammunition is not enough to provide justice.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the coalition condemned the attacks that claimed numerous lives and displaced many families across affected communities.

While the police confirmed the recovery of weapons and ammunition allegedly used in the attacks the coalition argued that these actions fall short of delivering justice to victims and their families.

The mere retrieval of ammunition does not compensate for the loss of innocent lives or trauma endured by survivors the coalition said.

It emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach involving prosecution of the perpetrators, improved security measures and support for affected communities.

The coalition urged the federal and state governments to intensify security operations enhance intelligence gathering, and engage local stakeholders to prevent future attacks.

It also called on relevant authorities to prioritize the welfare of the victims and provide necessary humanitarian assistance.

Benue has suffered from cycles of violence linked to ethnic and communal conflicts with mass killings raising national and international concerns about security and human rights in the region.

As investigations continue, the National Coalition vowed to remain vigilant and advocate for lasting peace and justice for Benue’s victims.
