NCAA Nears Completion of Oshiomhole Flight Incident Probe
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that the investigation into the incident involving Senator Adams Oshiomhole and an Air Peace flight is nearing completion and will be submitted soon to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN.
This development follows growing public pressure and multiple unanswered inquiries regarding the status of the report, which was ordered nearly two months ago, on June 13, 2025. Public demand for transparency was intensified by a concerned citizen, Adekunle, who took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), directly tagging the Minister and questioning the delay.
Adekunle wrote, “Please help us ask @fkeyamo what is delaying the report of Air Peace vs Senator Adams Oshiomhole since June 13th. If we can’t get a conclusion on that incident, how do we trust the regulators to provide reports on future incidents? We need to ensure safety of passengers, operators and indeed the system.”
Responding to the inquiry, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed the investigation is in its final stages. “The Honourable Minister mandated the Authority to investigate and send him the report. The senator has been interviewed by my department. Other stakeholders are being interviewed, and the report will be with the Minister shortly,” he stated.
However, Adekunle maintained that the delay was excessive, promising to follow up again by August 13 exactly two months after the directive was issued. Achimugu replied, defending the process: “Investigations can take a while. Interviews are subject to availability of involved parties. The Authority also handles other cases alongside this one. Be patient.”
The incident in question reportedly occurred in mid-June, when Senator Oshiomhole was involved in a disruption during a scheduled Air Peace flight. According to reports, the senator blocked access to the airport terminal after missing his flight, and accused Air Peace staff of misconduct.
Eyewitness accounts claimed that rather than acknowledge his late arrival, Oshiomhole created a scene, blocking the entrance and causing delays for other passengers. The altercation triggered a directive from the aviation minister for a formal investigation.
