NDLEA Nabs Enugu Businesswoman for Attempting to Smuggle Meth in Bum Pad at Lagos Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a businesswoman, Okolonkwo Ebere Theresa, after she was caught attempting to traffic methamphetamine concealed in a bum pad at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The arrest, confirmed in a statement on Sunday, September 21, 2025, by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, followed a joint operation between Aviation Security officers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and NDLEA operatives at the Terminal 2 screening checkpoint. Ebere was intercepted on Sunday, September 14, while preparing to board an international flight.

A detailed search uncovered two parcels of white crystalline substances hidden in her underwear. Subsequent laboratory analysis confirmed the drugs as methamphetamine, weighing 1.40 kilograms.

During interrogation, the suspect who introduced herself as a second-hand clothing trader and POS operator based in Enugu admitted that she was recruited into the drug trafficking network by a criminal syndicate. NDLEA has since launched an investigation to expose her handlers and uncover her planned destination.

The agency stressed that the arrest highlights its ongoing efforts to tighten surveillance at airports and entry points nationwide.

Officials reaffirmed their determination to dismantle drug trafficking cartels and safeguard Nigeria’s borders from being exploited by criminal networks.
