Neglected Kebbi Health Centre Serves Over 3,000 Residents Without Beds, Water, or Electricity.
A civic watchdog has raised alarm over the dire state of Junju Primary Health Centre in Kebbi State, where more than 3,000 residents depend on a crumbling facility that lacks the most basic infrastructure for healthcare delivery.
Junju PHC, located just three kilometres from Kebbi town, has no beds, medical equipment, electricity, or water, according to a report by MonITNG, a civic technology platform. The facility, which serves four surrounding communities, operates with only two community health extension workers who are overstretched and under-resourced.
The situation is so severe that patients, including nursing mothers and children, are forced to sit or lie on the bare floor. The clinic’s roof leaks during rainfall, and parts of the ceiling are falling apart.
MonITNG stated:
“This is not a political attack, it’s a cry for help from neglected communities. When politicians campaign, they reach these same communities. Post-election, they deserve to see visible results too.”
This revelation comes amid a worsening malnutrition crisis in Kebbi State. A separate MonITNG report highlighted the plight of severely malnourished children in Etene Ward, Kalgo LGA, where the only health post is described as “barely functional” lacking trained staff, medicine, or proper facilities.
One harrowing case featured a child fighting for life in a community without access to affordable treatment or transport to functioning hospitals. “They feel trapped watching their children suffer from preventable conditions,” the report added.
