NEPC Boss Nonye Ayeni Accused of Nepotism, Abuse of Office by Council Staff
Staff members of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) have leveled serious allegations against the agency’s Executive Director, Nonye Ayeni, accusing her of nepotism, abuse of office, and illegal staff deployments that violate Public Service Rules.
According to multiple sources within the council, Mrs. Ayeni is accused of removing qualified officers from key positions and replacing them with unqualified individuals from her ethnic group.
One case involved Mr. Rilwanu Salisu Kallamu, a certified procurement officer, who was redeployed to make room for an ally of Ayeni’s, Kenneth Ezeagu, allegedly lacking the necessary qualifications.
Sources claim the redeployments were not only unlawful but also used as tools of intimidation against dissenting staff. “Posting has become a punishment mechanism under Ayeni’s leadership,” said an insider.
The alleged irregularities reportedly began after Ayeni assumed office in late 2023. Staff claim she unilaterally restructured departments, created new positions without federal approval, and replaced professionals in procurement and HR units with loyalists.
They also cite breaches of procurement laws and service circulars as growing concerns within the agency.
“She uses deployment as a form of coercion and to silence opposition,” a council member stated. Another source added, “The council has lost five certified procurement officers within a year due to frustration and harassment.”
Mrs. Ayeni was contacted for a response and initially promised to speak after catching a flight, but subsequent calls went unanswered.
