Nicki Minaj Celebrates African Heritage, Reveals Igbo Roots Behind Birth Name

American rapper Nicki Minaj has recently opened up about her African heritage, shedding light on the meaning of her birth name, Onika.

She revealed that Onika is the Trinidadian form of the Igbo name Onyekachi, which translates to a steadfast belief in a supreme power that surpasses all others in greatness.

The revelation came after a fan tribute to Minaj’s recent appearance at the United Nations, where she addressed the rising jihadist attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

In a heartfelt social media post, the fan highlighted the spiritual depth of her name, writing:

“Onika signifies a steadfast belief in a supreme power that surpasses all others in greatness. Let my Nigerian Barbz and friends attest to how God prepares someone for greatness even before their birth!”

Minaj responded, confirming the connection and expressing pride in her African roots. She also added a playful note about the personal meaning behind a tattoo on her arm:

“Will it get even more mysterious if I told you the tattoo on my arm means ‘God is with me’ in Chinese?”
