Nigeria Determined to End TB by 2030 — Oluremi Tinubu
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to eradicating Tuberculosis (TB) by 2030, in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking as the special guest of honour at the 39th Stop TB Partnership Board Meeting held in Manila, Philippines, Tinubu told participants that Nigeria is making concrete efforts to reduce reliance on donor funding and build a self-sustaining national TB response system.
The event, which gathered over 180 delegates from 47 countries, was focused on strengthening global efforts toward eliminating TB, one of the world’s leading infectious killers.
According to a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady who also serves as the Global and National Stop TB Champion stressed that tackling TB must go beyond external support.
“The sustainability of our TB response cannot depend solely on external assistance but from within the nation through leadership, community engagement, and strategic national coordination,” Tinubu stated.
She revealed that despite temporary funding shifts from some international partners, Nigeria’s TB response remains strong, with improved case detection and treatment efforts.
“Health for all begins in our communities. The fight against tuberculosis is not finished, and coming together through these meetings reminds us of our shared responsibility,” she said.
