NIGERIA POLICE PROVES A VERY BIG POINT IN THE ARREST OF HON. ALEX IKEWECHEGH; WE URGE THE POLICE TO BRING UGO AGBALLAH TO BOOK FOR THE SAME ACT OF INHUMANE TREATMENT
It has become pertinent to emphasize that the Nigeria Police Force has been a vanguard of sustainable democracy in the country through the aggressive protection of the fundamental human rights of the citizens and other members of Nigerian society. This has been evident in the arrest of Hon. Alex Ikewechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, who was captured in a viral video engaging in inhumane treatment towards a Bolt driver.
On this, the Nigeria Police Force has proven a point and shown its capacity that “nobody is above the law.” The latest act of assault and inhumane treatment toward a Bolt driver will, in the meantime, expose many hidden similar cases reported by ordinary Nigerians against those meant to protect them. The incident reeks of lawlessness and undermines the principles of the United Nations Declaration on human rights.
In reaction, Enugu West Peoples Assembly commends the Nigeria Police Force for their swift action, which has demonstrated that nobody is above the law. Speaking, Comr. Aldolphus Ude, the Pioneer Deputy State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State, and the Interim Organizing Secretary of APC Enugu State Chapter, lauded the Nigeria Police for being vigilant and watchful in safeguarding the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
He further described the incident as part of a disturbing pattern in Nigeria, where certain politicians repeatedly act as though they are untouchable, meting out violence to anyone who dares challenge them. It is unconscionable that a political leader, who is meant to protect the citizens and uphold constitutional duties, continues to engage in lawlessness and brutality. He said this is not the first time Nigerian politicians have unleashed assaults on Nigerian citizens. He acknowledged the professionalism of the Police Force and reminded the Police authority to handle the case of Comr. Chika Idoko against Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, on a similar act of attempted murder, assault, and inhumane treatment.
Ude pointed out that there is a necessary need for the Nigeria Police to address the rascality and public display of high-handedness by Ugo Agballah and his associates, who use the name of the force or their office to commit such dastardly acts.
IGP Egbetokun has consistently displayed the highest standard of professional conduct through his men on the ground in this regard. The disparaging recalcitrance of Ugo Agballah, using the name of the Police and that of the IGP’s office to intimidate unfriendly party members, is no longer hidden in Enugu State. It would be commendable to recognize the intelligent actions of the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State and his men, who took action when this case of Idoko was first brought to the command.
Unraveling the key circumstances behind Barr. Ugo Agballah’s resistance to police invitations, arrest, and prosecution has practically undermined the Police Act and shown negligence toward Police authority, which should be addressed completely. Continuously avoiding police invitations on a similar case of attempted murder on the life of Comr. Chika Idoko leads us to plead with the IGP to unmask Ugo Agballah and his co-travelers, in the same way, Nigeria Police responded to Alex Ikewechegh’s assault, degrading and inhumane treatment toward a Bolt driver.
The reported assault on Comr. Chika Idoko, the Enugu North Senatorial Zone APC Chairman, by Ugo Agballah, who parades himself as the State Chairman of APC Enugu State, and his associates is deeply an evidence of lawlessness by certain desperate politicians. It is both obvious and painful to know that Chika Idoko was viciously beaten to stupor for merely promoting the remarkable achievements of the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology according to the report made available by Chika.
The report reads in parts: “This incident shakes the core of our humanity and violates every sense of decency and justice.” How can we, as a society, stand by and allow this kind of intimidation and brutality to thrive? “What makes this even more alarming is that the violence was allegedly carried out by Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah, who is in a position of leadership; people who should protect others, not harm them.”
Comr. Ude said, “I strongly urge the Nigeria Police Force to mobilize their men and use every legal means to thoroughly implement the investigation report and ensure that Ugo Agballah and his associates are held accountable for such cruelty.” Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah has been hiding in his Abuja home under the protection of his principal after the assault on Comr. Chika Idoko. Comr. Chika Idoko spent more than two weeks in the hospital bed as a result of this violent act by Ugo Agballah, which he carried out with his associates. He used a weapon and wounded his fellow party member in Enugu State. The Nigeria Police have been trailing Ugo Agballah, and he fled to Abuja.
The Nigeria Police is one body, and with police contacts, they can track him anywhere he is and bring him back to Enugu State to face prosecution for the inhumane treatment of his fellow party member. Ugo Agballah has been avoiding Nigeria Police invitations from the Enugu State Command for a long time. The Nigeria Police Force has even prepared a prolific report that Ugo Agballah is not a good Nigerian citizen. Ugo Agballah ran to his godfather in Abuja for protection and to shield him from police arrest, investigation, and prosecution for this inhumane treatment against his own fellow party member.
We must not remain in absolute silence in the face of evil, such cruelty, and lawlessness in the land, Comr. Ude added.
Signed,
Comr. Aldolphus Ude

The Interim Organizing Secretary of APC, Enugu State
