Nigerian Army Confirms Deaths of Soldiers in Bandit Attacks on Bases in Niger, Kaduna States

The Nigerian Army has officially confirmed deadly attacks on its forward operating bases in Niger and Kaduna states, validating earlier reports that about 20 soldiers were killed in a bandit assault.

According to military sources, the coordinated attacks took place on June 24, 2025, targeting outposts in Bangi (Mariga LGA, Niger State), Kwanar Dutse Mairiga, Boka (also in Niger), and Angwan Turai in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State.

The army’s spokesperson stated that the assaults were carried out in a three-pronged strategy by armed bandits.

Troops responded with combined land and air operations, killing several assailants in fierce combat. However, the army acknowledged that “some gallant personnel paid the supreme price,” while four others were seriously wounded and are currently receiving medical treatment.

“We regret to announce that several soldiers were lost in the line of duty. Counter-attacks have been launched, and operations are ongoing in the affected zones,” the military statement read.

The attack has triggered panic among residents in nearby communities, many of whom are now fleeing their homes due to fear of further violence.

The Nigerian Army promised to provide further updates as investigations and operations continue.
