Nigerian Family Declared Wanted for Allegedly Filming Soldiers During 2020 #EndSARS Shooting

Security operatives have reportedly declared a Nigerian family wanted over their alleged involvement in the 2020 #EndSARS protests.

The warrant, according to security sources, primarily targets Ismail Olanrewaju Soremekun, a civil rights activist accused of recording footage showing soldiers allegedly firing at unarmed protesters during the October 2020 demonstrations.

The development is said to be part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to trace individuals suspected of using the nationwide protests to incite violence and property destruction.

Soremekun, described by his wife as one of the protest coordinators, allegedly filmed the incident that occurred at the height of the #EndSARS movement.

The video reportedly circulated widely among activists and quickly caught the attention of security authorities, leading to his being declared wanted shortly afterward.

Sources further disclosed that the wanted list was later expanded to include his wife, Hannah Olufunke Soremekun, and their children after they allegedly attempted to evade arrest.

The family was said to have fled their residence at No. 14, Oke-Ola Street, Agbowo, Ibadan, before leaving Nigeria on November 27, 2020.

Human rights groups have since expressed deep concern over the development, condemning what they describe as the continued persecution of citizens connected to the #EndSARS movement.

Activists warn that such actions pose a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic principles and undermine the fundamental rights to peaceful protest and free expression.
