Nigerian Medical Association Urges Reversal of Owoeye’s Appointment Over Corruption Allegations

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called for the immediate reversal of Dr. Taiwo Owoeye’s appointment as the Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, citing ongoing corruption allegations.

According to reports, the NMA expressed deep concern over the reappointment of Owoeye, who is currently under investigation for various misconducts during his previous tenure.

In a statement, the association emphasized that allowing him to return to the helm of the psychiatric facility undermines transparency and accountability in the health sector.

The association referenced several petitions and reports submitted to anti-corruption agencies detailing alleged financial misappropriation and administrative irregularities under Owoeye’s leadership. They questioned why such a controversial figure would be reinstalled despite these unresolved issues.

The NMA further warned that reinstating Dr. Owoeye could damage public trust in medical governance and called on relevant authorities including the Ministry of Health and the Presidency to act swiftly by appointing a new, credible leader to the hospital.

They stressed that the integrity of healthcare institutions must not be compromised and vowed to continue advocating for reforms that uphold ethics, professionalism, and public interest.
