Nigerian Soldier Decries Neglect Amid Presidential Gifts to Super Falcons
A Nigerian soldier has expressed deep frustration over what he describes as neglect by the government, especially in light of the recent presidential rewards handed out to members of the Super Falcons.
In a widely circulated video, the soldier, visibly emotional, criticized the disparity in how military personnel and athletes are treated, questioning the government’s priorities.
He pointed out that while soldiers endure extreme hardship and risk their lives daily, they receive little recognition or material compensation.
In contrast, he noted that each Super Falcons player reportedly received ₦160 million, alongside 3-bedroom apartments, and coaches were awarded ₦80 million rewards for efforts during a tournament lasting less than a month.
“Una no see am? Person do work for three months, e no even reach a month, president dey sign N160 million for each person. All the players are 24 if I am not mistaken. And all the coach, they’re collecting N80 million. All the players president give each of them 3 bedroom flat,” he lamented.
He added that the value of benefits a soldier accumulates from enlistment to retirement—if he survives the full 35 years of service does not equal what the players earned in one event. He also mocked the deplorable state of army barracks, saying, “House wey soldier dey sleep for barrack, even a senator dog no fit enter that room.”
The soldier’s statements have ignited fresh conversations online about government priorities, inequality, and the treatment of security personnel in Nigeria.
