“No glory in being a second wife” – Rita Edochie fires at women marrying married men
Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has stirred strong reactions online after openly condemning women who willingly accept the role of a second wife.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, the actress supported a cleric’s message denouncing the practice, stressing that women who marry already married men are greedy and insensitive. She argued that such choices are built on the pain and tears of others.
Edochie insisted that there is no honor in becoming a second wife, adding that the role brings shame, misfortune, and curses rather than respect or recognition.
She warned that those who build happiness on another woman’s suffering would eventually face the consequences of their actions.
Her post read in part:
“If you’re a second wife, you are nothing but a witch. You are not innocent, you are not special, you are just greedy. You have chosen to feed on another woman’s tears, to build your happiness on someone else’s pain. Do not call it love, it is wickedness. Do not call it destiny, it is covetousness. A second wife is not a queen, she is a usurper. And know this: the same tears you caused will cry against you, the same pain you caused will visit your doorstep.”
The actress emphasized that there is “no glory in being a second wife,” describing it only as a source of shame and an unending reminder that one could never be the first.
Rita Edochie’s remarks are believed to be a direct jab at Judy Austin, who married Yul Edochie as a second wife. The veteran actress has repeatedly expressed her disapproval of the controversial union.
