Nollywood Stars Rally Behind APC at Lagos Mega Event Ahead of 2025 Local Government Elections, Spark Online Reactions
Nollywood heavyweights including Sola Kosoko and Foluke Daramola made headlines after they were seen supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a grassroots rally in Kosofe, Lagos, ahead of the July 12, 2025, local government elections.
The APC held a high-energy rally in the Kosofe area to promote its candidates for Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Kosofe LGA, and Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.
The event attracted a significant turnout and featured appearances from notable Yoruba movie stars, stirring public debate about celebrity involvement in politics.
A viral video from the event shows actress Foluke Daramola passionately urging voters to come out on election day, while Sola Kosoko also addressed the cheering crowd.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has set July 12 for council elections across 57 chairmanship positions and 376 councillor seats. The rally aimed to mobilize support and demonstrate party strength at the grassroots level.
However, the appearance of Nollywood actors sparked backlash from some Nigerians online. Critics described the stars as opportunists, referencing past disappointments from similar endorsements. Some social media users expressed frustration, predicting the stars would later complain of being used.
Foluke Daramola, while addressing the crowd, stated:
“This is our time to choose right. Come out and vote for APC on July 12!”
In contrast, netizens pushed back. One user commented:
“Them don start again. Later, una go enter podcast begin lament.”
Another added:
“I shame for una. I no even bother watch the video pass 2 seconds.”
As the election approaches, the intersection of entertainment and politics remains a hot topic. While some stars rally behind candidates, public reactions continue to shape how these endorsements are perceived.
With Lagosians heading to the polls on July 12, the impact of celebrity influence on voter turnout remains to be seen.
