Obaseki, APC Supporters Clash at INEC Office

A tense standoff between Governor Godwin Obaseki and APC supporters unfolded at the INEC office in Benin, Edo State, in the early hours of Sunday. The governor, alongside PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, led a protest to the INEC office, alleging irregularities in the ongoing collation of results.

Obaseki arrived at the INEC office around 12:47 am and met with officials inside, while Ighodalo and others waited outside. The running mate of Ighodalo, Osarodion Ogie, accused INEC of not following guidelines.

The situation escalated when Dennis Idahosa, APC’s deputy governorship candidate, arrived with National Secretary Bashiru Ajibola and supporters, shouting at Obaseki to leave the premises. Police intervention allowed them entry.

After a tense meeting, Obaseki exited without commenting, and Bashiru described the governor’s actions as thuggery. The final collation has been postponed until 11 am.

This development comes amidst allegations that APC thugs plan to attack the collation center and alter results, as claimed by the PDP.

The Edo governorship election results are still being announced from polling units.
