Odumeje Slams Nigerian Pastors for Staying Silent on Bad Governance, Urges Youth to ‘Take Back the Country’
Controversial Nigerian pastor, Prophet Odumeje, has openly criticized some of the country’s most prominent religious leaders — including Pastor E.A. Adeboye and Bishop David Oyedepo — for keeping quiet amid worsening governance and rising economic hardship across the nation.
In a fiery message shared during a recent church service, Odumeje described Nigeria’s leadership as “the worst anywhere,” accusing political elites of being more interested in personal gain than in serving the people. He said the silence of respected clergy figures in the face of corruption and poverty was disappointing, urging them to use their platforms to speak truth to power.
“We can never keep quiet. This is our country. There must be a revolution. The worst government anywhere is Nigeria. Ghana’s money has now gained more value than ours, yet no one is talking,” Odumeje declared.
The preacher lamented that Nigerians have become desensitized to bad leadership, saying citizens now treat corruption and failure as normal parts of life. Comparing Nigeria to Ghana, he noted that while Nigeria once mocked Ghana’s economy, the tables have now turned.
“Before, we insulted Ghana’s currency. But today, Ghana’s money is stronger than Nigeria’s. Things are costly, yet people have accepted suffering like it’s normal,” he said.
Odumeje also reminded Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign promise to provide 24-hour electricity within four years, insisting that leaders must be held accountable for their words.
He called on religious leaders to lead by example and inspire national change, stating that when those in power fail, future generations also lose moral direction and respect.
“When fathers fail to guide the nation, the children will suffer it,” he added.
The video of his statement has since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), sparking debates among Nigerians over the role of pastors in national politics and whether religious leaders should speak out more strongly against government failures.
