Ohanaeze Youths Urge Soludo to Disband Anambra Security Outfit, Recruit Fresh Drug-Tested Operatives After Corps Member Assault.
Widespread anger has followed viral footage depicting gun-wielding operatives attacking and stripping a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Elobor, in Anambra State.
A faction claiming leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Youth Wing has condemned the brutal act. Led by self-acclaimed President General Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the group called for the immediate disbandment of the Anambra State security outfit, codenamed Udo Ga-Achi, whose operatives were implicated.
“Before now, there have been several reports of how they violate the rights of people, and even engage in trial by ordeal,” the statement read.
“They have brutalised many innocent people in the state and carried out jungle justice for far too long. The case of Ms. Jennifer Elobor has exposed the kind of atrocities occurring in Anambra.”
Okwu urged Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to immediately disband the unit, institute a fresh recruitment process, and conduct compulsory drug tests for new operatives to prevent recurrence.
The statement also demanded that the perpetrators face open trial by the Nigerian Police and that Ms. Elobor receive adequate compensation from the state government.
