Oluremi Tinubu Hosts Senators at Aso Rock Dinner Amid Rising Bandit Attacks
A stir has erupted online after Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, extended an invitation to senators for a dinner at the presidential villa, Aso Rock.
The gathering, scheduled for Friday, November 28, 2025, comes at a time when northern states continue to face escalating banditry and security challenges.
The invitation was officially announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who humorously likened it to “a mother inviting her children.” While some view the dinner as a social engagement, others suggest it may provide a platform to discuss the nation’s worsening security situation.
The event follows a series of violent incidents, including the November 18 attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Ekuru, Kwara State, where 38 congregants were kidnapped and later released on November 23 after President Bola Tinubu intervened.
Reactions on social media have been mixed. While some users expressed curiosity about the discussions at the dinner, others questioned the First Lady’s role in convening lawmakers.
Comments ranged from humor and sarcasm to genuine concern about the country’s security.
One Twitter user, Deji, commented: “The dinner is for them to discuss the security situation in the country. Security issues have been discussed without food presence, so a ‘non-kinetic method’ is now employed.” Meanwhile, Nkechi questioned, “What right or power does the wife of a president have to invite senators to dinner? I’m just asking.”
As security remains a pressing national issue, the upcoming dinner has sparked debates about the intersection of politics, protocol, and crisis management in Nigeria.
