Oluremi Tinubu Says She Has Forgiven Those Who Betrayed Her Husband in 2023 Elections

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has revealed that she has forgiven those who betrayed her husband, President Bola Tinubu, during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking through her new memoir, The Journey of Grace: Giving Thanks in All Things, launched in celebration of her 65th birthday, Mrs. Tinubu described that season as one of the toughest tests of faith in her life but said she holds no grudges.

She explained that she found peace through her faith in God, noting that vengeance belongs to Him alone. “I do not have anything against anyone…the question is how I did not feel the betrayal anymore? I knew the Grace factor was evident, and the Holy Spirit continually comforted me. Never to avenge myself, assuring me that it is God’s prerogative. Mine is to thank Him for fighting for us,” she wrote.

The First Lady recalled that her husband had carried the dream of becoming president for more than 14 years, but his ambition was met with resistance, even from close political allies. According to her, some were supportive while others were indecisive, and a few chose to stay away until the outcome became clear.

Despite the pain of betrayal, Mrs. Tinubu said her faith helped her release those feelings. She emphasized that it is only God who rewards people for their deeds, not man, stressing the importance of doing good regardless of circumstances. She cited scripture, pointing to the example of Jesus Christ and the need to bless enemies rather than curse them.

She also shared a deeply personal moment when the Holy Spirit revealed to her the importance of giving thanks in all situations, both good and bad, a lesson that shaped the subtitle of her memoir.

Reflecting on her journey, Mrs. Tinubu admitted that life in Aso Rock can sometimes feel secluded and lonely, but she draws strength from prayer, scripture, and thanksgiving. She concluded by affirming that she is at peace and focused on doing all she can to make Nigeria better and greater.
