Ondo Crash: Government Promises Justice as Dangote Denies Link to Fatal Truck
The Ondo State Government has vowed to ensure justice for victims of the recent tragic truck accident in Akungba-Akoko, which claimed 10 lives, including that of a pregnant woman.
The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, announced on Friday that the government has launched an investigation to identify and prosecute the truck driver and the vehicle’s owner.
Ajulo, who described the incident as “inhuman and unacceptable,” condemned the silence of the truck’s owner, stressing that both the driver and the company responsible will face the full weight of the law once identified.
He emphasized that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration would no longer tolerate reckless driving and criminal negligence that endanger citizens’ lives.
The attorney-general also called for a nationwide review of truck operators’ safety compliance, insisting that heavy-duty vehicle owners must train their drivers and adhere to road safety regulations. He urged Nigerians to report reckless driving to authorities, assuring that the government would take decisive action against offenders.
Meanwhile, the Dangote Group refuted claims linking it to the truck involved in the crash, clarifying that the vehicle with registration number JJJ 365 XB belongs to an independent logistics company with no affiliation to the conglomerate.
Ajulo extended condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that justice would be served and promising tougher enforcement to prevent future tragedies.
