Ondo Monarch and Chiefs Council Publicly Apologise to High Chief Ogunfeyimi, Wife Over Humiliating False Accusation and ‘Shame Parade’

In a major gesture of remorse and reconciliation, the Obinehin Kingdom Chiefs and Youths Council in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State has tendered an official and unreserved apology to High Chief Olowo Ogunfeyimi and his wife, Madam Surulere Ajifowowe-Ogunfeyimi, following their public humiliation over a false accusation of goat theft.

The apology, signed by His Royal Majesty, Oba Rotimi Williams Kalejaiye, the Moneyin of Obinehin Kingdom, came after a thorough palace investigation cleared the couple of any wrongdoing and condemned the shameful treatment they suffered at the hands of some overzealous youths and chiefs.

According to the palace, the young people and chiefs involved in the incident “hijacked the process” of investigation, bypassed due diligence, and subjected the couple to emotional trauma and reputational damage.

Speaking on behalf of the kingdom, Oba Kalejaiye expressed deep regret over the incident and reaffirmed High Chief Ogunfeyimi’s status as a respected member of the Chiefs-in-Council, while assuring his wife of her full rights and respect within the community.

“The kingdom acknowledges the fundamental rights of the couple were trampled upon, and for this, we render our heartfelt apology,” the monarch stated.

“We deeply appreciate the swift intervention and efforts of individuals and authorities who stood for justice and contributed to restoring peace in Obinehin,” Oba Kalejaiye said.

This royal apology not only seeks to restore dignity to the wrongly accused couple but also serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of mob justice and the importance of due process in traditional communities.
