One Dead, Nine Injured in Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Crash
A fatal accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway has left one passenger dead and nine others seriously injured. The crash occurred at about 6:55 a.m. on Saturday in the inward New Garage area of the highway.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, the accident involved a white Iveco truck with registration number MEK 34 XC and a white Toyota commercial bus with registration number ENU 814 XJ.
“Tragically, one male passenger lost his life, while nine others, eight men and one woman, sustained varying degrees of injury. No passenger escaped unhurt,” Jayeola said.
FRSC officials, along with officers of the Motor Traffic Division, Ojodu Abiodun Police, promptly responded to the scene.
The injured victims were rushed to the Emergency Centre, Ojota, and Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo.
The obstruction was cleared quickly to restore traffic flow, while investigations into the crash continue. Preliminary findings indicate speeding and road obstruction as the likely causes.
