Orji Kalu Accuses Politicians of Funding Bandits to Destabilise Tinubu’s Government
Senate Chief Whip and former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has alleged that some Nigerian politicians are sponsoring bandit attacks and kidnappings in a bid to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Kalu made the claim during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he stated that the current wave of insecurity appears politically motivated.
According to him, the pattern of killings, abductions and coordinated assaults suggests a deliberate effort to weaken the government ahead of the next election cycle.
He noted that similar tactics were used during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, stressing that some groups often exploit insecurity as a political weapon during election periods.
Kalu further alleged that both local actors and foreign collaborators are involved in fueling the unrest across the country. He insisted that the rising violence is not random but strategically orchestrated to create instability.
Despite his concerns, the senator expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s handling of the crisis. He highlighted that the President had suspended several official engagements to focus on national security, especially after a series of high-profile abductions.
Kalu assured Nigerians that ongoing rescue operations are aimed at securing the release of kidnapped victims, including schoolchildren recently taken by armed groups.
He also commended the military and other security agencies for intensifying efforts to restore peace across affected regions.
