Orji Uzor Kalu: Tinubu and Atiku Might Be Secretly Meeting Despite Political Differences
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has sparked fresh political discussion by suggesting that President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may be maintaining a close personal relationship despite their political rivalry, even hinting at possible private visits between the two.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the former Abia State Governor addressed criticism surrounding his recent visit to Labour Party Governor Alex Otti.
Kalu emphasized that political affiliations should not hinder friendships, stressing that he has always maintained relationships across party lines even during tense political periods.
“If anyone expects me to stop visiting the governor because I’m in APC and he’s in Labour Party, they’re wasting their time,” Kalu stated.
He cited past examples, saying, “During Obasanjo’s time, I was one of the few governors who openly visited Atiku.”
Kalu added that while Tinubu and Atiku are publicly opponents, they may still share private conversations or visits:
“Atiku is Tinubu’s good friend. They’re playing politics, but they might be meeting at night—who knows?”
He criticized politicians who feign loyalty while secretly fraternizing with rivals: “Some people deceive Tinubu by pretending not to talk to others, but still reach out in secret. I don’t operate like that.”
“All the major players in PDP are my friends, and I can’t abandon those relationships just because we’re in different parties,” Kalu affirmed.
Senator Kalu’s comments reinforce the blurred lines between political rivalry and personal relationships in Nigerian politics, raising questions about the authenticity of partisan conflict.
His remarks suggest that personal bonds often persist beneath the surface of public political drama.
