Outrage as SS1 Student Buys Brand-New Benz, Father Demands Explanation
A viral video has stirred controversy on social media after a secondary school student in Senior Secondary School 1 (SS1), identified as Ola, was seen flaunting a brand-new Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
The incident has sparked concern over the source of the student’s sudden wealth and the increasing glamorization of materialism among minors.
The footage, shared by user @dammiedammie35 on X (formerly Twitter), shows Ola proudly standing beside the luxury car while being confronted by his visibly upset father.
The man is heard questioning the legitimacy of the car purchase, saying, “SS1 student, where did you get the money? Return the car to the rightful owner.”
Despite the father’s firm stance, a group of Ola’s peers can be heard cheering him on in the background, urging him to ignore his father and “show them the update,” hinting at curiosity about how he acquired such an expensive ride.
The clip quickly went viral, attracting widespread reactions from Nigerians online.
Some of the reactions include:
@provii8: “If my son buy Benz at SS1, I go ask him for update.”
@AfrokonnectNG: “Return to where? The father should be proud of the son.”
@abazwhyllzz: “Wetin SS1 boy wan carry Benz do, lol. He should better not listen to his friends.”
@_SammyNas: “Mind your papa and mama oh. If kasala burst tomorrow, na dem go show face. Those hailing you now will run.”
@TaygharDcrypto1: “If you know how clueless teenagers are, you’d realize his chances of dying before reaching 21 just increased.”
@princedegoke: “Every source of wealth should be questioned. Our society really needs cleansing.”
This incident has reignited concerns over questionable sources of wealth among young people, peer pressure, and the potential dangers of unregulated access to luxury by minors.
Many are calling for parents, schools, and government authorities to investigate such cases and instill values of accountability and contentment in the younger generation.
