Outrage as Tailors’ Union Members Assault Woman for Refusing to Join Their Association
A shocking video circulating on social media has sparked widespread outrage after members of a local tailors’ union were seen physically assaulting a woman who allegedly declined to register with their association.
The disturbing footage, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) through user @Teniola, shows the victim crying and clutching her head in pain as a crowd gathers around. According to reports, the incident occurred after some female members of the tailoring group stormed the woman’s shop, attacking her and confiscating her sewing machine in retaliation for her refusal to join their union.
Eyewitnesses captured the chaotic scene, where another woman could be heard confronting the assailants, questioning the justification behind their violent actions.
“Is it by force to join a union?” she shouted angrily. “See how you assaulted your fellow woman. You people are wicked! Did you buy the machine for her?”
The victim, visibly traumatized and in tears, was later comforted by sympathizers who gathered at the scene.
The video has since ignited outrage across Nigeria, with social media users demanding immediate justice and the arrest of those involved. Many condemned the union’s actions as barbaric and uncalled for, calling for better protection of artisans’ rights to work freely without coercion.
Authorities have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident as the video continues to circulate widely online, fueling discussions about abuse of power within local trade associations.
