Over 700 Terrorism Suspects Convicted in Nigeria! FG Strengthens Security Nationwide
The Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully convicted more than 700 individuals linked to terrorism across the country.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that these convictions were achieved through the Special Terrorism Court, established to handle insurgency-related trials.
Currently in its eighth sitting, the court has delivered judgments against high-profile defendants, with several other cases still ongoing.
Idris emphasized that the process reflects the government’s commitment to justice through lawful procedures rather than arbitrary detention.
Security agencies across Nigeria continue to intensify prosecutions, with thousands of other suspects still under investigation.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has concluded work on sensitive cases, including the Owo Church killings, the Nyanya bombings, and the Yelwata attack.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force and the Civil Defence Corps are pursuing cases involving terrorism, oil theft, and pipeline vandalism nationwide.
Idris also addressed recent U.S. concerns labeling Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” dismissing claims of religious persecution.
He clarified that violent extremism targets all Nigerians, irrespective of faith, and reiterated the government’s determination to maintain security and deliver justice to the populace.
