“PAMSHAA honours Hon Okey Mbah for outstanding legislative performance”

The member, representing Nkanu East state constituency, Enugu state house of assembly, Hon. Anthony Okechukwu Mbah has received an award for his outstanding contributions in the legislative activities of the 8th assembly of Enugu state by Papyrus Magazine State Houses of Assembly (PAMSHAA).

Hon. Mbah, who, alongside other legislators from the Enugu State House of assembly, received the award on Saturday, 30th August 2025, following a series of sterling legislative performances as well as visible grassroots representation. The lawmaker received two awards; one for sponsoring the first private member bill of the 8th session of the Assembly ( A BILL FOR A LAW TO AMEND THE LANDLORD AND TENANT LAW CAP 101 OF THE LAWS OF ENUGU STATE 2004,2nd amendment 2025.). and secondly, as the most vocal house member.

Speaking after receiving the award, Hon. Mbah thanked God for the grace to serve his people, describing the recognition as a call to do even more for his constituency. He expressed gratitude to his constituents for their support, noting that their encouragement had been the driving force behind his passion for quality representation.

He went further to commend Governor Peter Mbah for providing an enabling environment for lawmakers to thrive, saying that the governor’s policies have opened opportunities for better service delivery across the state. According to him, the governor’s leadership style has helped strengthen the bond between the executive and legislature, making it easier for the assembly to function effectively in the interest of the people.

Hon. Mbah also praised the governor’s vision for infrastructural renewal, youth empowerment, and economic expansion, stressing that these efforts have made it easier for lawmakers to complement government’s agenda at the grassroots level. He assured that with continued collaboration, Enugu would witness even greater progress in the years ahead.

Hon Mbah passion for grassroots representation has endeared him to his constituents. He has supported his constituents in providing scholarships in free jamb registration as well as WAEC registration for prospective candidates. His synergy with the executive arm has attracted numerous road, health, and school projects across the wards of his constituency. He has assisted in securing jobs to qualified constituents seeking job employment. He said that the governor’s leadership style has inspired him to focus on providing representation that supports the grassroots. He used the opportunity to thank the speaker. RT Hon. Uche Calistus Ugwu for his support and encouragement, which has helped him to achieve success in the house.He also congratulated his Co awardees and his colleagues, according to him the award represents the result of unity and cooperation that exists in the House.” Without my colleagues support and cooperation we won’t make any progress.”He dedicated the award to Nkanu East Constituency, his grassroots supporters, and the 8th Assembly.

Other awardees from Enugu include Rt. Hon. Chima Obieze of Ezeagu Constituency, recognised for his impactful motions; Hon. Johnson Samuel Ani of Enugu North, honoured for Constituency Service Excellence; and Hon. Ezugwu Onyekachi Pius of Nsukka East, who received the Best Performing Member in Constituency Outreach. The House Standing Committee on Local Government and Inter-Parliamentary Affairs was also named Most Effective Committee, while the Speaker emerged as the Masses’ Most Loved House Member.

The PAMSHAA Award is an annual event that evaluates the performance of Hon House of Assembly members across the country. This year’s event witnessed high profile dignitaries from the various legislative chambers across the country. The event was held at Kadi kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel, formally known as the Abuja Sheraton Hotel.
